INDUSTRY SOLUTION
Engineering and Consulting Offices
We carry out office network installation for engineering, architecture and consulting offices, together with servers, backup and network security. We design every system around the speed of teams working with large project files and around changes such as an office move or growth.
NEEDS
What the industry needs
- 01
Project files are large.
Drawing, model and analysis files can reach hundreds of megabytes. If the network or the server is slow, the team spends part of the day waiting for files to open.
- 02
The project archive is the office’s memory.
Project files built up over the years can be lost to a failure, theft or ransomware. The archive must be backed up, and restoring from backup must be tested regularly.
- 03
Client data must be protected.
Consulting offices store their clients’ project, contract and proposal information. This data must be protected against outside access and unauthorized sharing.
- 04
The office has no separate IT team.
In small and medium-sized offices, IT is often an extra duty for one employee. The infrastructure must be simple, documented and easy to manage.
SYSTEMS
Systems we recommend
Office network · servers · backup
01 · Network & Infrastructure 04 · Data Center & Cloud Data Center Services
A well-placed, cooled and monitored server rack in the office for project files; at Arkatun Engineering we installed the servers.04 · Data Center & Cloud Cloud Storage
Backup of the project archive with local and cloud copies, and regular restore testing.06 · Consulting & Support Cyber Security Consultancy
Protecting client data with a firewall, remote access (VPN) and user permissions.01 · Network & Infrastructure Fiber Optic Technologies
Fiber for links between floors and buildings; for Emcekare Engineering we supplied and terminated fiber patch cables.06 · Consulting & Support Maintenance and Support
Periodic maintenance and a single point of contact for faults, for offices without an IT team.
APPROACH
How we work without disrupting your business
In office projects, most of the work happens while the team is at their desks. We schedule cabling and rack work after hours or on weekends, and server migration for when file access is lowest. If the office is moving, we prepare the new office’s infrastructure before the move, so the network is working when the team sits down at their new desks. At handover, we provide the cabling plan and the device list as documentation.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do you set up a network in a small office?
First, the number of users, devices and desks is defined. Then cable is run to every desk, printer and meeting room, and the cables are gathered on a patch panel in the rack; the switch, firewall and access points are installed. As the last step, every line is tested and the network layout is documented.
What does office network installation cost depend on?
The cost depends on the number of outlets, the cable category (Cat6, Cat6A), the condition of the cable routes and the switch, firewall and access point models chosen. Reorganizing an existing infrastructure is priced differently from a new installation. We prepare a firm quote after the site survey, together with the outlet list.
Should an office choose an on-site server or the cloud?
Offices that work with large files often use both. An on-site server gives fast access to large project files, while the cloud suits backup copies and remote access. We work out the choice with you based on file size, internet speed and remote work needs.
How do you plan network infrastructure for an office move?
Before the move, an outlet list is drawn up from the new office’s desk plan and the cabling is completed. The internet line is set up at the new address in advance; the server and the rack move last, usually on a weekend. That way, the team starts its first working day on a network that works.
Which storage solution suits large project files?
For most offices, a NAS or file server with fast disks and regular backup is enough. As the team grows, the speed of the server connection and the disk layout become more important. At least one copy of the archive should be kept outside the office, for example in the cloud.
